For the last post, I was very pregnant and grouchy. But Mairi-Jean finally arrived, ten days after her due date, at a healthy 9lbs. 1oz. Labor was much faster this time than with Janio, and I had a water birth again. She has been a good chubby baby like her brother, and now at two months is starting to respond and gurgle back at us.
Two kids and teaching has been quite the…. adjustment. So the bilingual thing, which was already in use–
Yes, my son watched Winnie-the-Pooh three times today while I attempted to do laundry and lesson plan… but hey, at least he watched it in Spanish.
No, we haven’t started a college savings fund… but guess what, we speak Spanish to them all day!
My kids just ate cereal for dinner… but did I mention they are bilingual?
— is now even more helpful. On top of mommy brain, I also frequently play the I’m-speaking-a-second-language-all-day card, on the days when I forget everything. Oops, used up all my brain space narrating our English version of Curious George in Spanish! That’s understandable, right? I don’t actually say those things. I just repeat them in my head as necessary. People (my work included) have been incredibly gracious as I stumble back into the real world, bit by bit. Babies are gifts, and as scattered as I feel I wouldn’t trade these snuggly sweet moments for the sharpest. most organized mind in the world.
