Game/Activity: Steal the Bacon

This game is best played outside or in a gym. Line up articles of clothing or shoes exactly in the middle. You will want to use old clothes because there might be some wear and tear involved! Be sure to put in some doubles with different colors.

Divide the class into two teams, and have them arrange themselves each más bajo to más alto. Count up so each team member gets a number (ideally, pairs from each team will be fairly evenly matched). Then have the teams line up on opposite sides of the space.

Call out an item of clothing: el zapato azul. THEN call out a number: ¡Cinco! The students who are 5 from each side race to the middle to grab the zapato azul. To involve more students, call two items of clothing and them two sets of numbers. Just make sure to save the numbers for last so everyone is listening to the clothing terms and paying attention.

Game: Battleship

Print out the Battleship games I have as a freebie. Use the blank boards, and on the vertical left rows draw an item of clothing (make sure the boards match). Across the top horizontal row, fill the boxes with a different color. To play, each team gets a board and fills in their ships vertically and/or horizontally in the top section (the ships may touch each other but shouldn’t cross) . They must try to fill in the opposing team’s side and record their hits and misses on the bottom section. To guess certain squares, the team states the piece of clothing and the color (la camiseta roja) for that square and the opposing teams responds with “agua,” “tocado,” or “hundido.” The first team to sink all the opposing team’s ships wins.
